This week’s edition of the blog was written during a fabulous P4 residential trip at Netherurd in West Linton. We took part in lots of exciting activities such as fencing, pond dipping, frolf (Frisbee golf, I had to ask too!), musical playground and the unanimous favourite; caving. The P4s were a credit to the school showing exemplary behavior throughout and all going to sleep, eventually!
Read on to find out what was going on back at the ranch.
Our P3s enjoyed an educational visit to Craigie’s farm this week. They learned about different crops and farm animals and got to meet some sleepy pigs and cheeky goats!
Deep Sea World
P2 had their visit to Deep Sea World this week and really enjoyed it. The highlight was walking through the tunnel looking at the sharks. They are now recreating it in a fabulous display along the length of the corridor.
Our P6s were out and about on the streets of Kirkliston for Bikeability earlier this week. Thank you to Mr Wood, Mr Olyott, Kerr from Sustrans and PC Jim Kelly for making sure they were safe on the roads.
I missed a fabulous show by the Glee Club yesterday afternoon but I’m hoping to see the video next week. Thank you so much to the parents who came along to see our talented pupils and thank you to the staff for running such an exciting club.

The Rollerbeats Gang!
We had a fully packed assembly today with input from Colin MacPhie about growth mindsets, an interesting story from Chris from Kirkliston Parish church about Moving On and Nicola Toner came from the library to tell the children about the Summer Reading Challenge. The theme this year is based on the comic book ‘The Beano’ and the children were excited about the special ‘Spy’ pens they will receive if they meet the challenge. Nicola also mentioned all the interesting stuff they will be doing at Kirkliston library this summer for the children.
All our pupils have had a go on the new playground this week and the feedback has been very positive. The final RoSPA report is now through and it will be available to view on our website on Monday. The Heras fencing will be removed on Monday.
Please note that use of the playground will be the responsibility of the school during school hours only.
P1-3: 8.50am-3pm (12.15pm on Fridays)
P4-7: 8.50am-3.15pm (12.25pm on Fridays)
Out with these times the responsibility lies with parents/carers.
P7 Transition Visits to Queensferry High School
As you know, your child will undertake a 3 day induction at Queensferry High School from Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21nd June.
We’ve recently had visits from a variety of High School staff and students and I know the P7s are looking forward to the new experiences they have been hearing about.
Transport arrangement are as follow:
Tuesday 19th June – Meet at Kirkliston Leisure Centre at 8.30am. Bus leaves at 8.40 sharp.
Wednesday 20th June – Meet at Kirkliston Leisure Centre at 8.30am. Bus leaves at 8.40 sharp.
Thursday 21st June – Meet at Kirkliston Leisure Centre at 8.20am. Bus leaves at 8.30 sharp. (To accommodate higher volume of traffic due to Highland Show)
Return – Bus will leave Queensferry High School at 3.15pm Children will be dismissed from the Leisure Centre on return (around 3.30 – 3.45pm).
Please note that, in order to ensure we arrive with the other cluster P7s, the bus will leave at the times stated. A member of Kirkliston Primary School staff will remain at the Leisure Centre until approximately 8.50am in case of any late arrivals but it will not be possible to transport them to the High School.
We will not have access to the Leisure Centre for shelter so children should have a jacket if weather is cold or wet.
Children don’t have access to the High School cafeteria during transition and are not permitted to leave the school grounds so a packed lunch should be supplied.
Could I also take this opportunity to remind you that the P7 Leavers’ Assembly is on Wednesday 27th June at 1.30pm and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Could I please ask that parents wait outside the gates until the children return to class at 1.15pm. It will then be possible to make your way around the school to the gym hall entrance. You are invited to stay for light refreshments afterwards.
I’m sure the children will have a great experience during their induction days and I’m looking forward to hearing all about it on their return to Primary School!
