As I sit in my office typing this blog, there is a bit of a buzz over at Allison Park. I’m really looking forward to seeing my first Kirkliston Gala Parade tomorrow and it looks like this glorious weather is going to continue. Read on to find out what we have been up to this week.
P4 Football Team
Our incredible P4 football team finished this season undefeated. They are really pleased with themselves as are we. They have had a lot of positive comments from the other school on how good a team they are – the coaches are very proud!
One-Day Creative Drama
On Monday we enjoyed 2 performances of ‘Let’s Talk About It’ from One Day Creative Drama focusing on Mental Health, Mindfulness and Emotional Wellbeing. The children were able to understand and talk about how this linked very well with our ongoing work on Building Resilience. The performances (one for P1-3 and one for P4-7) were very motivating and engaging for the children. There were really good ideas for taking back to class and developing with the children.
We had our competitive sports afternoons this week and our pupils did incredibly well. They showed excellent sportsmanship and were very encouraging to their peers. Not long now until we find out the final results!
Deep Sea World
P1 and P2/1 had a fantastic trip to Deep Sea World on Tuesday. The children were very engaged learners and asked lots of questions as they made their way round. P2 will be enjoying a visit next week.
P1 Induction and Meet the Teacher
A huge thank you to all of our prospective P1 parents and carers who attended the P1 Induction Evening on Tuesday. It was a great turn out, with parents eager to hear who their child’s class teacher will be and which class they will be in. The children all came in on Wednesday to meet their new teacher and spend some time with their new classmates. After a couple of initial tears from children (and parents!) they settled really well and enjoyed watching the film made by our current P1s ‘A Day in the Life of P1’. We look forward to welcoming them all in August.
Area Strings Concert
I had a wonderful evening last night at QHS enjoying the area strings concert. P5/6/7 pupils form all cluster school performed flawlessly. Well done to the eight pupils who represented Kirkliston Primary School.
We had a thought provoking assembly this week led by P2C. They shared their learning about Under the Sea and shared some really important messages about protecting our oceans from plastic pollution. I think the staff are all off to buy some paper straws as a result! It was aptly timed too as today is World Oceans Day. Well done P2C, what a fantastic assembly.
I’m delighted to announce that the new playground has now passed its final health and safety inspection. The Playground committee launched the rules for the new playground today and the classes will have a trial go under the supervision of their teachers next week. All going well, we hope to open the playground on Monday 18th June.
