KPSA Information Evening: 1 week to go!
All parents are invited to attend the Kirkliston Primary School Association Information Evening on Wednesday 11th September at 7.00pm (Please note revised date).

This is a great opportunity to come and learn about the KPSA and the important work they do to support the school in an informal setting where our different groups will set up a ‘market place’ in the hall. Whether you are keen to join the committee, would like to help at school events or just want to hear more about what they do, please join us.

We are now a school of over 600 pupils and would like to increase our KPSA membership to more than 20 representatives. Our aim is to have at least 3 reps. per year group.

There will be an opportunity to hear about the future renovation works and visit the new pods. Refreshments will be provided.

Vacancies
We currently have 4 vacancies at Kirkliston Primary School; 1 teaching post and 3 PSA posts. Details of these can be found here:

Assemblies
We had our first whole school assembly today and our P1s sat with their P6 buddies. Lynne from ComputerXplorers shared what they offer at their after-school clubs which will run Wednesdays from 18th September.
The Playground Committee reminded us how to play safely on the Adventure Playground by showing us the video they made with Miss Mudie last year.

Curriculum Evenings
Thank you to everyone who came along our Curriculum Evenings. We were delighted that so many of you could make it. If you were unable to come you will find the PowerPoint presentations, shared by the teachers, on the website very soon.

House Captain Recruitment
We are currently in the middle of recruiting our House and Vice-House Captains in P7. The interested pupils have submitted an application form and will be interview by Mrs Henderson and Rhys Blamey, Security Officer at Edinburgh Airport, on Monday Morning. The successful candidates will then go on to the final stage which is a vote at the House meetings next Friday.

Health and Safety
To ensure the Health and Safety of the whole school community please adhere to these reminders:
Entry to the school building should be through the main entrance only and all visitors must sign in before moving through the school. Parents/carers are not permitted to move beyond the foyer area unless accompanied or directed by a member of staff. Visitor stickers must be worn.
Any pupils using the Adventure Playground before/ after the school day are the responsibility of their parents/guardians. We would advise close supervision at these times. Please remind your child not to climb on the trees or fences around the playground.
Scooters and bikes should not be ridden in the playground. Please remind children, and adults, to push them until they leave the school grounds.
Please park considerately and safely when dropping off/ picking up your child. Families should not use or walk through the staff car park.

Nursery
We have now welcomed all our new children and they have settled well into nursery life.  We have started our Autumn plan this week looking at seasonal changes and sharing the story of ‘Little Red Hen’ which will be a focus for the next few weeks.  Look out for our wheat in the garden, that the children planted last session, in a planter near the small gate next to the sandpit. We have also started up our pupil leadership groups.  The Snack Attackers help with the planning of our snack menu, preparation of snack and organising cooking and baking activities.  Our ‘Digital Leaders’ help with the daily distribution of iPad and technologies, charging equipment and selecting apps and games for the iPad and smartboards.  The ECO warriors undertake the daily eco tasks of taking the paper to the recycling, taking the water tray water to the water butt, recycling the food waste and topping up our wormery with fruit and veg waste. The observations, comments and ideas generated by each of the groups also help us plan for future activities, resources and events in nursery.
