Assembly
We had a lovely assembly this morning sharing lots of good news with the school.
The P7s spoke about the Cross Country Transition Event yesterday where they were joined by all cluster primary schools. Not only did we mange to get two bronze medals, we also won the over-all boys and girls competitions.
Mrs Whitford told us all about the P1s and P2s excellent running in the afternoon event.
The P6 (and one P5) footballers shared their experiences at the Scottish cup in Glasgow on Wednesday. Despite not coming home with the cup the boys played well, scoring lots of goals and showing fantastic sportsmanship. They are a credit to the school.
Our P7 Sports Ambassador ran through the programme for sports day on Monday.
The key timings are as follows;
The P1 to P3 children will have Sports Day in the morning aiming to start the first event at 10am and finish at 11.30am. We will then have the ‘House Relay Race’ on the 3G pitch at around 11:45. The P4 to P7 event is in the afternoon starting at 1.30pm and finishing at 3.00pm.
Pupils can come to school in sports kit and can wear it all day. Please make sure they have a water bottle and wear sunscreen.
As part of the Building Resilience programme, we have been working on how we can make a difference in the world. We are getting very good at singing the catchy ‘Make a difference’ song in assembly (ask your child for a rendition). We heard from two Primary 6 children who had been inspired to pick up litter in the school playground. Their message was that no matter how young you are, you need to decide what you want to change about the world, and believe in yourself. Inspiring stuff!
Volleyball
A number of our pupils attended the P5-7 Volleyball Festival at Napier University on Wednesday 23rd April and here’s what Heather Brownlee (Active Schools Coordinator) had to say about the event:
The effort and sportsmanship displayed was fantastic and it was clear to see the evidence of what they have been learning whether that be in PE or at extra-curricular clubs
Our children have been exposed to Volleyball for a while, but they excelled themselves with their patience, support and understanding against opponents who were experiencing the sport for the first time from St David’s, Craigroyston, Preston St and Broomhouse
I have noted the finishing places below but in my mind they were all winners!

Bikeability training
Summer term is here! We are looking forward to our Bikeability training for our P6 pupils which started today. We have a supply of bikes and helmets in school for anyone who does not have access to a bike. Also, if you have a bike you no longer require and it is in good condition, please consider donating it to the school for our Bikeability training sessions.
Nursery
The garden has been busy this week with lots of imaginative play making use of our side garden den, loose parts and the mud kitchen. Our seeds are beginning to emerge in the planters which has generated lots of interest and discussion. Our tadpoles too are continuing to engage the children who are eagerly watching for any changes. The highlight has been the arrival of the sand pit sand last Thursday. The children enjoyed watching the two huge bags being off loaded and then many hands made light work filing up the sandpit and even more fun has been had playing in this week!
