Well, we made it! Week one of digital learning is complete and, judging by the feedback we have received so far, it has been a success despite the wobbly start on Monday morning. We would like to thank all families for their patience, support and understanding this week and all pupils for their enthusiasm and effort. A special thanks goes to all the staff who have overcome numerous hurdles to provide a wide variety of exciting activities for our pupils as well as being there to guide them through the tasks. All-in-all a job well done!

You are all doing a fab job but remember to give yourselves a break if it isn’t going to plan!

“Learners should not engage in online learning for the entirety of the school day. Learning may include activities such as research tasks, project work, practical opportunities, discussions and other activities that can be carried out away from a digital device” Education Scotland

“Remote learning will not replicate face to face in school teaching – in style, approach or hours of delivery.” Education Scotland

Digital Support

This week we have been working very hard to support families who have not been able to access Teams. If you have been in touch and are still awaiting a reply, can you please get in touch again via email? There have been quite a few messages and we want to make sure we don’t miss anyone.

A good first port of call is the link we sent out last week. Here you will find general support and guidance for all the tools we are using to support online learning. https://sway.office.com/eeLRUKmSi7DiNtFi

Please don’t send messages through Teams as this forum is for pupil-teacher communication only. All parent enquiries should be emailed to admin@kirkliston.edin.sch.uk

Kirky Families Connect

Dear Parents/Carers

We hope you and your family are all well in these difficult times.

Now that remote learning is up and running again, we understand the pressure this puts on you as parents and carers.  Whether it’s juggling work and home learning, finding it difficult to motivate your child to complete home learning tasks or feeling isolated due to limited adult company, everyone has their struggles.  At Kirkliston Primary School we want to recognise and support parents and carers in this time.  Everyone is doing the best they can do and should never feel anything else.

One way of doing this is by accessing online forums and we would like to point you in the direction of a new Facebook group that has been set up by Kirkliston families, for Kirkliston families called ‘Kirky Families Connect’. It will be live from Monday 18th January.

The aims of the group are –

To offer support, encouragement and a bit of light relief from what we are going through.
To be a positive place for parents and carers to share how they are feeling and to receive positive support from one another.
To share ideas for relaxing and unwinding after a busy day.
To give parents and carers the message that we’re all in this together.

The group will not be filled with ideas of things to do with your children, nor is it a forum for unkindness or criticism. It is not a school page, so will not contain information from the school or learning tasks for pupils.

It is a private, closed group so if this is something that you feel you would benefit from being part of then please request to join the group.

Take care and stay safe,

The Family Learning Team
