Sports Assembly
On Monday afternoon we celebrated all things sporting at Kirkliston. We were joined by the football coaches and Mel Coutts, who was the first woman to represent Scotland in beach volleyball at the Commonwealth Games. Mel helped to present the Sports’ Day medals and Mr Briggs shared the P7 Football team’s success over the last few years. Mr Moir rounded the afternoon off by revealing the overall winners of the House Cup. Well done Almond!
P7 Transition
The P7s enjoyed their transition events this week and here is what they said about their experiences…
I really liked science; we made chemicals change colour and explode
We made wraps in HE.
I got vert lost on my way to PSA.
We made yoyos out of wood.
Meet the Teacher
Almost all of our classes met their new teacher(s) and PSA(s) this week which was a very exciting event for all. P3C will meet their new teacher, Miss Toms, on Tuesday.

Our P5s were particularly pleased to hear that they were the classes who would be taught in our new classrooms next session. The have fondly named them The Pods and are looking forward to the flexible layout of their classrooms and brand new furniture.
Assembly
P2C shared their learning about bucket filling with us. They showed us several was to be kind to each other. I was particularly captivated with the idea of Kindness Support Team which we can all be part of. They ended by challenging us to help fill someone’s bucket today. Well done P2C.
We also had a visit from two Guide Dogs and their handlers. We have been focussing on how we can make a difference recently at school, and a group of our children had raised a huge amount of money via a cake and candy stall. Along with other fundraising over £1000 was raised for the Guide Dogs charity. The group of children presented the cheque at assembly on Friday, and we couldn’t be prouder of them. What a great example of a group of children showing that they can make a difference.
Nursery
The last few weeks have been very busy in nursery…..
Lots of children enjoyed being part of the Kirkliston Gala parade; both the AM and the PM groups looked amazing in their costumes. Our PM group took home 1st prize and the rosette is now up at the front entrance for everyone to see. We were really pleased to have six children’s art work shortlisted in the Scottish National Gallery Art Competition run by Tesco. Last week the ‘Clydebuilt Puppet’ company performed to all our children their show called ‘Lost Bear’ a story of a bear’s adventure to meet new friends which tied in with all the transition activities and discussions that have taken place this term. On Thursday we took all our children leaving this session to go to school for an outing to Hopetoun House, we had great fun in the sunshine exploring the woodland area and completing a scavenger hunt and art task. The Rangers commented how amazing our children were which made us very proud! Next week: on Monday we are looking forward to our Nursery Sing -a-longs at the primary school to which all parents and carers are invited to attend. We will also have our nursery garden parties on Thursday where children and the nursery team will celebrate the end of an amazing year with fun activities and a picnic (we have ordered sunshine!).
P4 Enterprise
On the 19th of June P4 set up their own businesses as part of an enterprise project. There were different stalls including delicious ice cream, excellent crispy cakes, yummy sweets, warm hot chocolate, colourful loom bands, energetic sports and lots more. P5 classes and their teachers came to our enterprise afternoon. Everyone enjoyed it, especially Mr Moir who was so excited he ripped his trousers on the space hoppers. He had to wear a bin bag like a skirt! We don’t think this was fashionable, we don’t recommend this outfit to anyone! Overall, we thought our businesses were a fantastic success. We made a profit of £418 of Kirky Cash.
Parents’ Consultations
It was lovely to see so many of you at our final parent consultations of the year and even more so was seeing you accompanied by your children. This was the first time we have tried this new set up in the hall and the feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive so far. We will ask for feedback more formally after the holidays.
KPS Park Run Take-Over
Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. Our local parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9:30am at Crammond.
We hope to see lots of Kirkliston families at the Crammond parkrun on Saturday 22nd June. You will need to register at parkrun.org.uk and print your barcode, this will allow you to get a time result. Parkrun policy states that children under the age of 11 years old are the responsibility of their parents or guardians and need to be accompanied at all times before, during and after the run. Everyone runs for their own enjoyment so please come along and join in whatever your pace!
