Reports

All class teachers have been busy preparing the end of session reports. These will be sent home before the end of term.

As part of the process for our end of term reporting, we are also preparing for Transition Meetings between staff, Meet the Teacher information and details on how our classrooms, school and playground will look on return to school in August. Please be assured that all staff at Kirkliston PS are fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition and in supporting all of our children.

Return to School

I have attended several meetings this week to discuss the return to school and what that will look like in Edinburgh and although I cannot share any information at this time I would just like to reassure you that things are taking shape. I will update you as soon as information can be shared.

Nursery

Ms Kiely recently met with the City of Edinburgh Council Early Years’ Team to discuss Nursery places and patterns of attendance at Kirkliston Nursery School for next session, once we are through the current pandemic. We are happy to share that we will be sending out information with the place we are able to offer your child when able to be open at full capacity, early next week. Please keep an eye out for this email.

The Early Years Team is also working on plans for re-opening Kirkliston Nursery School at reduced capacity to allow for social distancing, should this be necessary. We expect further guidance on this from the Scottish Government and Early Years Team later in June and will be in touch with you about these plans as soon as possible.

N/ P1 Transition

This week, under normal circumstances we would have held our P1 Induction Evening. Next Wednesday an online version of this will go up on the transition page of our website.

Next week there will also be a new video for pupils, which will have the theme “Getting to Know You”.

As mentioned above, we will inform you as soon as possible about plans for school reopening and how transition plans fit in to this.

Please continue to check the Edinburgh Bear Hunt website for weekly activity ideas around our transition book, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt. https://bearhuntedinburgh.wordpress.com/

P7/S1 Transition

Thank you to all P7 pupils and their parent/carers who have submitted Questions to our P7 form

P7 Question and Answer

I will aim to email respond to you all by the end of next week. Please look at our P7 Booklet for information https://sway.office.com/tjJuCdchR9hpaprs?ref=Link&loc=play as well. We continue to work through plans for our P7 Transition and the start into S1 at QHS and I will be able to provide further information on this by Friday 12th June.

Take Care, Stay Safe, Miss Gordon (DHT QHS)

Sunflowers

You may not already know this but Mr Phillips, our Facilities Technician (or janny) is a very keen gardener. He has kindly left some sunflowers by the side entrance which are free to a good home. All we ask is that, if you take one to replant, you keep us updated on its progress.

Kirky Connects Week

We hope you have enjoyed our Kirky Connects community focus week this week. It has been great to explore outcomes and experiences in other areas of the curriculum that may not have featured on the learning grids so far. We have had many successful focus weeks in school in the past including finance, art, health to name a few. We are all very sad that we are missing out on the excitement of Gala week this year, particularly the staff who had been asked to be judges this year.

As with other focus weeks we enjoy sharing the learning across the school community so if you have any pictures or video that you would like to share with us, please email them to admin@kirkliston.edin.sch.uk with Kirky Connects in the subject line or tweet them  @KirklistonPS
