Reading
This week in reading we are learning to create an accurate and detailed drawing using the key information from a text. There are two levels of difficulty (mild or hot) so please choose which is the most appropriate for your child or you are welcome to complete both. Your child can read through the passage independently or with an adult. With a highlighter identify the key words in the text – these may be adjectives. Using the information highlighted create your drawing. You may also wish to label the picture with the key words used.
Extra challenge: – You could choose three unfamiliar words from the text and find their meanings in a dictionary or online.
Spelling
Our spelling sound for this week is ss (double S). The way we learn our spelling sounds is the same as we learned our sounds in class, using the Powerpoint and dot dash count. Remember to sound out the words using Freddy fingers first before writing the words and dotting and dashing. When you feel confident in using your new sound ask an adult to read the dictation sentences to you, write them down then check how you got on.
If you want to extend your learning, try finding your spelling words in a dictionary, use them in a sentence or a story or try some of the worksheets provided.
Writing
This week in writing we are continuing to be inspired by the story of Pandora’s Box.
The first task is one we’ve done in class a lot; identifying wow words and finding out what they mean. Task 2 is to write the story in your own words remembering to use full stops, capitals and wow words. We are looking for lots of description to make your story exciting.

Maths
This week we are continuing to look at time. We will be moving our focus onto quarter past. The PowerPoint below can help prompt the discussion to understand the positions of the hands on an analogue clock.
Discussion can be had regarding how many minutes are in an hour, half an hour and therefore a quarter of an hour which will help you when transferring it to digital time. Make sure to be looking at various clocks within your house regularly to see if you recognise the time shown.

Topic
We are starting our new topic Food and Farming by learning about the different types of farming found here in Scotland.
Farming in Scotland PowerPoint
Read through the PowerPoint together and discuss any questions that may arise or try using these questions to develop further understanding. What do you already know about types of farming? What was the most interesting fact you learned? Was any of the information surprising?

You may also want to begin a way of recording your learning throughout this topic. This could be using the back of your jotter or creating a booklet to write down what you learn each week? Or you could maybe even create a scrapbook including facts and photos and if possible.
Art
This week in art we are learning about famous artist Romero Britto and will be creating our own piece of art inspired by his work. Using the PowerPoint below you can first find out lots of information about the Brazilian pop artist.
Did you notice how colourful and exciting his art is? We will be continuing to develop our skills from last week within the elements of line and pattern. Additionally, we will be using colour as Romero is known for his bright and eye-catching colours. You can use any media for creating this art- pens, paint, watercolour or pencils, whatever is available at home.
