Hello Primary 1,
We can’t believe that this is our final home learning grid for you P1. Over the past 12 weeks we have seen some fantastic learning going on and we are so proud of you for all your hard work. We have missed you all so much and we are very grateful to you and your families for keeping us updated with your experiences at home- you have really made us smile with your cheerful photos and wonderful pieces of work!
P1 Home Learning Grid (week 11)
Since it’s the end of term and we’d usually have had a class trip, we have planned a ‘virtual trip’ for you. We’ve attached a pdf document below with information about the places you can visit on the ‘trip’. Take your time exploring and then you could complete one of the suggested activities. Some of the websites might be quite tricky for you so you might want to take a grown up on the trip with you. Have fun!
Hopefully the nice weather is making a comeback and we can enjoy the outdoors. We have created a ‘P1 Countdown Scavenger Hunt’ for you to try this week. The scavenger hunt has lots of different things for you to find to help you reflect on the past few weeks. You can think about all the lovely things that have happened during lockdown and all the fabulous learning that you have been doing while at home. We hope you enjoy doing this and please share any pictures with us – we’d love to see!
For literacy, we have our final week of revision. There is a Form for you to complete for the ee/ea, oi/oy and ow/oa sounds and one concentrating on a-z. As usual, choose the one which is most suitable. There is also a spelling activity on Sumdog for you to enjoy. Remember to select this in the task section of Sumdog.
We are continuing with our focus on money and are now moving on to adding and subtracting different amounts. You did a super job of recognising different coins on Sumdog last week. For our final maths task, we would like you to create your own toy shop at home. We know how much you’ve loved playing ‘shops’ in the classroom and we’re sure you’ll have lots of super ideas for this at home too! Think about how much each toy might cost and create price tags so the customers know how much they need to spend. With your family, take it in turns to be the customer or the shopkeeper. We have also included a link to a Topmarks toy shop game and some written activities for you to practise your new skills.
Money – Adding and Subtracting with Coins
Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about lots of ways to keep ourselves safe. This week we are thinking about how to keep ourselves safe when we are online. With an adult, we would like you to watch a cartoon video about two children, Lee and Kim, who are playing games on their computer. Talk to your adult about what happens to Lee and Kim. How can you follow the safety tips to help keep yourself safe? You could use the smartphone template to design a poster with some top tips about how to stay safe online. Can you remember how to make it eye catching with a snappy slogan?

Now that we are near the end of Primary 1, we start to think about what Primary 2 will be like! Your new teacher will be very excited to find out about their new class. It would be lovely if you could tell them some interesting facts about yourself to help them get to know you. We have included an ‘All About Me’ activity where you can draw a picture of yourself and let your new teacher know about some of your favourite things. We will pass these onto your new teacher, when we know who they are, and they will be looking forward to meeting you!
In the first week of Primary 1 we all drew a self–portrait, which has been on display in the classroom all year. This week we are setting the challenge of doing that activity again. This is a really nice way for you all to see the big difference in your drawing and writing skills from then to now. You will be able to compare them, and talk about your progress, when the portraits are returned to you after the summer.
Finally, we have included one last ‘learning conversation’ form for you to complete. We know that you have filled in lots of these forms recently, but this is a very special one. It will give you a chance to share all of your happy memories of Primary 1 with your teacher. Normally we would have these conversations in the classroom at the end of the year. We are looking forward to hearing all about your favourite experiences and proudest moments!
We hope you enjoy your last learning grid of Primary 1 and that you all have a lovely summer break. It has been a pleasure to teach you all this year. We’ve had a lot of fun together and made lots of happy memories, and we very much look forward to having you back at school as grown up Primary 2’s in August.
