Welcome to the Kirkliston Primary Support for Learning page.
Hello again! We can’t quite believe that it is week 11 of Home Learning! Mrs O’Hara and Mrs Benzie just wanted to say how proud we are of all of you and we think we should take some time this week to celebrate your successes and achievements! Think carefully about the new skills you have learned during your time learning at home – you could draw a big star and write all your achievements in it? Have you improved your typing skills, reading skills, baking skills or cycling skills? Whatever it is share your achievements with your family and friends and give yourself a big pat on the back for how well you’ve done since we’ve been away from school! We thought it would be lovely if you could celebrate as a family and get everyone involved making some cakes or sandwiches for a family afternoon tea celebration!
We would love to hear about your favourite achievements and successes during the 11 weeks of Home Learning! Please share your achievements and successes or pictures of your afternoon tea cakes and sandwiches with us by emailing us at admin@kirkliston.edin.sch.uk.
Below are some additional activities you can be doing to support your learning this week.
Literacy
We continue to recommend the Daily Read Write Inc phonics lessons shown on YouTube. These are clear and easy to follow 10 to 15 minute phonic lessons with trained Read Write Inc teachers which children can follow independently. The children in all our groups are very familiar with RWInc and the Speed Sounds.
A new schedule is starting from the 1st June and we would like you to continue to focus on the Set 2 and Set 3 sounds.

Typing Club is a great website for helping you improve your keyboard skills.
This week we will focus on the Home row using your right hand and the G & H keys. It is a good idea to try and do a short session of typing skills each day to help you improve. Is your speed and accuracy improving? We hope so!
Phonicsplay Comics is a great site to use for short chunks of reading each day. Choose a level the children can read easily and you can explore from there.
This week have a look at these comics:

Phase 4 – Let’s go fishing
Phase 5b – A kind fish?

IDL P5 to P7 continue to have access to IDL which they regularly use in school. The children have been given their passwords and we would like to encourage the children to complete 2 modules three times a week if they can. Please let us know if you need any support with this. The children are confident using this in school and will hopefully be able to work on this independently at home. Click on the link below and click on ‘My IDL Login’ to get started.
Health and Well Being / Nurture

We would like you to continue to choose of the activities on the June Wellbeing calendar.
We like the activity to have a bake off competition in your house where
everyone chooses something to bake or make for a family afternoon tea. This would be a lovely celebration of all your achievements for all the family!
Please send any of your wonderful achievements and creations for June or pictures of your afternoon tea celebrations to admin@kirkliston.edin.sch.uk to share with Mrs Benzie, Mrs Stewart, Mrs Miller and Mrs O’Hara.
Maths / Numeracy

- Plan your activities and either do one each day or have a Maths focus morning where everything is maths related!
- Follow instructions to make 2 types of sandwiches. Discuss the shapes you make and count the faces and vertices.
- Next, follow a recipe and carefully weigh dry ingredients and measure liquids to make a favourite cake.
- Remember to calculate the time correctly, nobody wants burnt cake!!
- Decide what fractions you want to cut your cake into 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc
- Share with your family and enjoy 😄
